{rhythm in our home} Fall Favorites

The changing of the seasons from sommer to autuum is, next to winter into spring the most visible one. I guess, I’ve said it before, I like fall. Not espacially for the cold and dark days it rings in, but for the colors and the smell.
No other season let’s us collect so many things from nature to decorate our home with as fall does.

Fall favorites
We’ve been redecorating the house a bit every now and than over the last weeks. I was a little surprised when I wandered through the house yesterday and realized we really have a fall decorated house already.

Today we did some fall related arts’n’crafts with the girls. We cut acorn shaped leafs, attached strings to it and hung it as garlands and crafted kites to decorate our kitchen window with. It’s a pretty easy and low energy craft which goes hand in hand with their attention span.

Fall Favorites
Next to fall related arts’n’crafts I just really like nature right now. The nights may already be cold and in the mornings its foggy and the meadows and fields are covered with morning dew but the days are still warm and sunny. I like to get the görls outside as much as possible, collecting chestnuts, leafs, flowers and berries we can use to decorate our home with, craft with or just to look and explore the world around us.

wip Wednesday {knitting}

I am so excited. I signed up for a second waldorf doll making weekend with Maria Ribbeck from Mariengold. In May 2012 I took a weekend class with her where one of my oldest friend and I crafted a doll each. This was the birth, as Hazel calls it, of Lotte which belongs to Amber. Ever since Hazel’s been asking if I could craft her a doll too. I promised I do. I suppose, at the moment, this is nearly impossible to fit into my schedule, timewise. But since I want to keep my promise, I signed up for another weekend course.wip Wednesday

As Hazel’s doll-to-be will need a welcome home outfit as well as appropriate winter clothing, I started knitting a little Katjuschka, a cardigan to fit the Mariengold dolls.
Both görls have also been begging me to knit and sew more clothes for their dolls.
Hazel especially wished for shoes. She commented that without shoes, Lotte won’t be allowed to walk outside as her feet will get dirty. Moreover, she noticed that with winter coming, she will feel very cold barefoot. So shoes are next.

{Rezept} Lecker Vanillewaffeln

Frische Waffeln.

  • 30 Minuten Teig ruhen lassen
  • Waffeleisen an, Waffeln backen. Fertig!

Guten Appetit!

Throwback Thursday

For the last couple of weeks Hazel’s been busy working on her “Ich-Buch” (Book about Me) in Kindergarten. They color pictures of their home, their room and their favorite toys/colors/food. They also drew pictures of themselves. To complete the album they were asked to bring along a baby picture of themselves.
We forgot about it last week but last weekend Hazel and I sat down in front of the laptop turned on our NAS and looked through, roughly, thousands of baby pictures. She decided on one of her where she was about 8 weeks old.
I decided on this one for this weeks #tbt

March 2010

The pictures was taken in late March 2010. A day or two before we went to Dubin, Ireland, for a long weekend. I can still recall the overall overwhelmed feeling I still had. Premature labor and bedrest only really tired me out. After her birth, everything was still new, Hazel wasn’t what one would call “a beginner’s baby”. But I also recall that we had this enormous amount of time. Time we spend with Hazel going for walks, hanging around the house and just enjoying her. It was a great time.
And, oh. my. gosh. that hair!

wip Wednesday: Ruby Red

Appearances are deceitful. Today we had over 20° Celsius but in the mornings it’s foggy, it smells wet and cold. Summer ends. Fall is all over the place. I too have been busy knitting fall sweaters but I feel as if I knit slow as a snail.

wip Catherine Rose

I casted on a fall sweater for Hazel last week with a beautiful soft and squishy 1ply silk merino mix. She’s really sensitive and sock yarn irritates her skin. So before I casted on this sweater we made the “itch-test” and rubbed the yarn against her skin. She said it was fine and I was allowed to cast on this Catherine Rose sweater for her. I hope it’ll fit as I had to make some modifications to it to fit my skinny Hazel-görl.
